Tata Steel is one of the most old steel giant of India which was established in 1907, and it was started to offer multiple products and offerings to the customer. The company follows the vision of maximising the value to the customer and stakeholders through product innovation and improvisation.
Tata steel is one of the best top 10 global steel companies which is the capacity of having more than 29 million tonnes per annum. The company has introduced more than one brands like - tata shakti, TISCON, tata steelium etc.
Why ERP in TISCO -
If we analyze the work culture of TISCO there were following problems -
  • The information system was not customer friendly
  • A very low attention was paid to the customer demands
  • The information system was too complex and not error free
To set back from these problems TISCO felt that there is no need of information system and there is the need of other type of information system which can provide the real time data and can interconnect the customer demands with the company work culture.
TISCO started ERP software of SAP R/3 to streamline the core processes of the all business entities and many modules were implemented from the software like - video conferencing, video streamlining, VoIP and wireless integration with mobile cell phones for mobile computing.
Benefits of ERP software in TISCO -
  1. There were many benefits happened to the company in terms of financial, technical and managerial parameters.
  2. There was the total cost of 40 crores INR and within next months they were able to save 33 crores cost. 
  3. The manpower cost was reduced from 200$ per ton to the 140$ per ton in 2000. The inventory cost was drastically reduced to 190 to 150 rs per ton.
  4. SAP implementation has empowered the company which can store the customer data and provide the insights of customer analysis in proper decision making.
TISCO is regularly working on the improvement in their existing information system, which is benefitting to them in every possible manner.
Conclusion -
From today’s case study it has been proven that the ERP has benefitted to the competitive industry of steels and has proven its usability. The overall ERP implementation in tata steel has established the data transparency and transparency in data is really necessary for the proper decision making.

Nestle SA is the candy making company and it is headquartered in Switzerland. Currently it has employed more than 2 lakh employees and currently its product is going through the 80 countries of this world. In 2000 Nestle SA decided to incorporate ERP software in its premises because of the leveraging purposes of its employees. This aspiring project was cost values at 80 million dollars.
How did the ERP was needed in the Nestle SA company ? -
Nestle SA decided to implement the ERP software of SAP in 2003.Before this in Britain Branch of company had already implemented the ERP software of SAP. In 2003 the SAP ERP was implemented in five modules - purchase, financials, sales and distribution, accounts payables and receivables. The following motives were there to fulfill their motive -
Nestle wanted to act as one company instead of multiple brands.
  • To monitor the cost of vanilla products.
  • To control the operations data in a integrated system.
  • To make flexible to forecasting data, accounting transaction information.
  • Company wanted to come out from the competitive disadvantage. 
  • To get the real time monitoring data.
In the implementation of ERP project, there were 50 top executives and 10 senior IT professionals were included to set the best achievable goals. They decided to implement the proper data structure in the company and it was necessary to include the workforce commitment in implementing the ERP software.
The implementation phase of ERP software was started in April 2001 and it was completed after 2 years in the first quarter of 2003. There was a contract of 200 million dollars for the implementation of ERP software in Nestle company.
Benefits -

  • A saving to 325 million dollars
  • Improvements in supply chain improvements
  • Common databases and business processes led to the proper demand forecasting
  • Company has more control on the inventory and reduced the cost.
  • Simplified training procedures and operating to employees.

India is the second most populated country in the world and has 5% market share in the export market of handicrafts. Still the smaller countries have also a 4 - 5% rate of market share in their growth sector, so there is still indication that India has a wider scope of the growth in revenue potential in the textile market.  
There are following drivers of growth in International Market of handicrafts -
Demographic Demand -
India is a populated and inhabited country of more than 1 billion people and approximately of them is the population of young people with different mindsets. and they are eager more to earn money at a very fast pace and how much their spending power will increase, their spending power will also increase. Gone are the days, when people had to spend the money for merely needs. But with the increasing power of purchasing, the people are getting more and more ambitious. In the metro cities of the worldwide people are willing to more spend because their purchasing power is increasing.

Increasing urbanization -
Today people are moving from rural areas to urban areas in the need of better employment. Later on the power of money is definitely coming in the hands of people and their demand patterns are changing.

Growth in online retail sales -
Since the revolution of the internet, the online retailing is coming in to its existence. From 2015, the apparel market is increasing at more speed.  Its worth is more than 1 billion dollar. Still people are hesitating to adopt online market in spite of the online scams.
